University College and Undergraduate Studies units often provide services and resources to students regardless of the students’ academic home.   All academic colleges have desired goals and outcomes for students in their majors, and we all depend on campus partnerships to achieve these goals and provide support for student success.  AD&D administrators often lead conversations for developing and fostering key relationships with campus partners.  This discussion will examine the need, value, and strategies for connecting with our campus partners to help us all provide student success initiatives.

BEST PRACTICES SESSION - Session A | Insights in Proactive Advising | Laura Masterson, Managing Director, Academic and Career Development, IUPUI

This session focuses on experiences with proactive advising since 2019, including development of the model, metrics, challenges and opportunities, scaling the work, and considerations for other units wishing to proactively reduce equity gaps.



FACILITATED DISCUSSION - Session BLeadership, Advocacy, and Structural ChangeTemeshia Lemons, Director of Advising, University College, Montclair State University


This session interrogates how the increasing focus on data-driven decision-making, the emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the need for alternative funding models have significantly affected higher education, with specific impacts on advocacy, leadership, and structural changes at our institutions.

1:30pm - 2:45pm | General Session | The Challenges Facing University Colleges and Undergraduate Studies and Strategies for Ameliorating Those Challenges | Eric White, Executive Director Emeritus, Division of Undergraduate Studies, The Pennsylvania State University 

This session will examine challenges for University Colleges and Undergraduate Studies units as they work to secure their role at their institutions, making their value known, cultivating allies in all corners, and striving to assure their relevance as the institutions move forward.

BEST PRACTICES SESSION - Session A | Creating Inclusive Environments: Strategies for Student Success Across Diverse Populations | Eva Medelik, Certified DEI Communicator and High-Performance Coach

This session investigates strategies for creating inclusive environments that support academic success for students from diverse backgrounds. Specifically, we will focus on what faculty can do in the classroom to promote equity, inclusivity, psychological safety, and increase student success both in and out of the classroom.



FACILITATED DISCUSSION - Session B | Ensuring Student Success in University Colleges and Undergraduate Studies Programs | Kesha Reed, Associate Vice Chancellor and Associate Dean, NC State University 

This session will provide the space for participants to examine their current structure regarding academic programs, support and engagement and how they are provided to their undergraduates.  The facilitators will provide a "journey mapping" experience that will allow participants to reflect on the services they are providing, how to measure the impact of those services and the opportunity to reflect on the impact to the campus community if University College or Divisions of undergraduate studies did not exist.

BEST PRACTICES SESSION - Session A | Metrics that Matter: Leveraging Data for Insight, Action, Advocacy, and AdvancementPresenters: Jason Bentley, Dean University College & Libraries, Ferris State University; Dani Hiar, Coordinator of Student Success Initiatives, Ferris State University; Michael Zaborowski, Director of Academic Advising, Ferris State University - San Pedro Room

This session focuses on student success metrics and measures, and opportunities to effectively leverage data for insight, action and advocacy. Participants will review and co-construct strategies to leverage both common and uncommon measures to effectively advance student success initiatives.

This session identifies the most significant student success challenges faced by your institution and how you, your units, and University College or Undergraduate Studies program  contribute to addressing those challenges. It also will highlight promising initiatives and ways in which institutions have delivered personalized attend to students at a scale that can make a difference. - Capistrano Room

FACILITATED DISCUSSION - Session A | Managing Institutional Change | Adrienne Sewell, Director Advising Retention and Sophomore Initiatives, Indiana University-Bloomington; Arthur Watson, Executive Director Transition Programs, Texas A&M University 

This session focuses on the rapid cycles of change on our campuses—from  personnel to campus-wide to structural—and explores how we navigate change and also help our staff to navigate change.  We will present examples of change management, give recommendations on how to handle change, and encourage robust feedback.  - Ironstone Room

 

FACILITATED DISCUSSION - Session B | Academic Integrity in the Age of AI | Ann T. Torrusio, Assistant Dean, College of Arts & Sciences, Washington University in St. Louis

This session seeks to facilitate a larger discussion around the increasingly complex field of academic integrity, including questions about students’ use of machine learning and emerging technologies in ways that are ethical and equitable, and how conversations about academic integrity will inevitably evolve as students continue to use open educational resources in novel and unpredictable ways. - Capistrano Room
